THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN THE AGE OF THE 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION – THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY TOWARDS TRANSITION

Resumen

Objective: Propose to seek the critical understanding of the quality of evidence of the correlation between "Industry 4.0" and "Circular Economy" for implementing sustainable business processes.

Approach: The method adopted was a systematic review of the literature through a selective search in the CAFe database from CAPES journals, in the search "Subject", which includes all the available search bases.

Relevance: As for sustainability, the "Circular Economy" and "Industry 4.0", although they have different concepts, origins, and fundamentals, they connected to the viability of business models in the face of the socio-environmental, economic, and technological requirements of a current globalised ecosystem.

Main results: There has been a significant increase in the number of publications in the last three years (2019-2021), reflecting the interest in the topic through the development of scientific studies.

Theoretical contribution: The study presents the "Industry 4.0" brings several features that can support the transition to a "Circular Economy" system, rethinking practices of society's economic organization.

Contribution to management: The proposed process mainly contributes bringing from the Industry 4.0 several features that can support the transition to a "Circular Economy", given that the latter needs advanced resources for its implementation.

Postgraduate in Materials Science from the Postgraduate Course in Metallurgical and Mining Engineering from CPGEM UFMG and in Strategic Management from the Postgraduate Course in Economic Sciences from CPEAD FACE UFMG. He holds certification in Quality Engineering by ASQ with professional experience in the areas of Research & Development, Knowledge Management, Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property in a steel company.

Ricardo Luiz Perez Teixeira, Instituto de Engenharias Integradas, Universidade Federal de Itajubá, Itabira, Brazil.

Ricardo Luiz Perez Teixeira is an engineer, scientist and Brazilian university professor at the Federal University of Itajubá. He is the author of educational, didactic and scientific books and articles on topics such as entrepreneurship, engineering education and industrial engineering, chemistry, metallurgy, materials and general. He participates as a lecturer for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in materials engineering and metallurgy and in the postgraduate course in business administration.

Ricardo Teixeira Veiga, Centro de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisas em Administração da FACE, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Full professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and collaborating professor at the Center for Leisure and Recreation Studies/ UFMG. He is a member of the editorial committee of the Revista de Administração FACES and of the Revista de Administração Hospitalar e Inovação em Saúde (RAHIS). He is a reviewer of RAC. Journal of Contemporary Administration, RAE. Journal of Business Administration, BAR - Brazilian Administration Review, Management Research Review and other indexed foreign journals. He has experience in the area of Administration, with emphasis on Marketing, working mainly in the following topics: service marketing, consumer behavior, market research, multivariate statistical analysis (especially Structural Equation Modeling) and theory of marketing. Coordinates the NECC - Nucleus of Statistics and Behavioral Sciences. It is an ad hoc consuiltor of CAPES in the review of didactic material for distance learning courses. Max Leandro de Araújo Brito, Centro de Ensino Superior do Seridó, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Currais Novos, Brazil.

Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and serves as permanent professor in the Graduate Program in Administration (PPGA), in the Graduate Program in Science, Technology and Innovation (PPgCTI) and in the Graduate ProgramBachelor in Innovation in Educational Technologies (PPgITE). He is a member of the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (ABEC). As a polymath scientist, he develops multidisciplinary studies in the various strands of Ivan Illich’s critical thinking, namely management, education, religion, energy, logistics, environment, health.

Priscilla Chantal Duarte Silva, Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal.

Postgraduate in Communication and Discourses, in the line of Cognitive Linguistics at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon - FUL Portugal, studying the use of conceptual metaphors in the Sciences and in discourses on environmental sustainability.
