Using social media to promote knowledge sharing in information technology projects: a systematic review and future research agenda

Resumen

Objective of the study: This study investigates the use of social media to promote knowledge sharing  in information technology  projects, integrating the three concepts to identify literature gaps and propose a research agenda.

Methodology/Approach: With descriptive and exploratory purposes, a systematic literature review was

 carried out, adopting a systematic process to define the research protocol.

Main results: Wikis, instant messengers and blogs concentrate the research focus. The number of peer-reviewed papers published is low and most of them address software development projects, tasks and processes, and developers. Literature gaps and research opportunities refer to studies in the public sector; the use of social media for knowledge sharing in project management practices and methodologies; sharing knowledge in hybrid and virtual teams; and the use of integrated social media and/or new technologies such as mobile, cloud computing  and Internet of Things.

Theoretical/Methodological contributions: Besides adding to the literature and stimulate future research, findings can bring new insights on adopting or improving the use of social media to share knowledge in IT projects.

Originality/relevance: This study approaches an emerging and  growing research field. It is innovative in  bringing together the themes of social media, knowledge sharing, and IT projects, presenting an overview of the subject addressing the most used tools; tasks and processes supported; stakeholders involved; and tools contribution to knowledge sharing practices. To the best of our knowledge the integration of these themes has not been previously explored.

Doutorando em Administração - Gestão de Projetos, 2019/1, pelo Programa de Doutorado Profissional da UNINOVE; Mestre em Administração - Gestão de Projetos, pelo Programa de Mestrado Profissional da UNINOVE, PPGA-GP (2016). Bacharel em Ciência da Computação pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1987), com especialização em Tecnologia da Informação pela mesma universidade (2001). Atualmente é analista judiciário, na especialidade Informática, no Tribunal Regional Federal da 3ª Região (SP), lotado na Secretaria de Tecnologia da Informação, Divisão de Sistemas de Processo Eletrônico, atualmente responsável pela Seção de Atendimento ao PJe. Atua na área de Tecnologia da Informação desde 1983, com ênfase em Engenharia de Software e Gerência de Projetos. Certificado desde 2007 como Project Management Professional (PMP) pelo Project Management Institute (PMI).

Cristiane Drebes Pedron, Universidade Nove de Julho - UNINOVE - São Paulo Programas de Pós-Graduação em Administração - PPGA e Gestão de Projetos

Doutorada em Gestão (2009) pelo Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão (ISEG), da Universidade de Lisboa, em Portugal. Mestre em Administração (2003) pela Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS) e Bacharel em Informática - Análise de Sistemas (2001) pela mesma instituição. Atualmente é professora dos programas de Pós-Graduação em Administração - PPGA e Gestão de Projetos da Universidade Nove de Julho em São Paulo. É editora associada da revista Alcance e IPTEC, sendo também avaliadora de diversos periódicos e congressos na área de Administração/Sistemas de Informação. Tem experiência na área de Administração, com ênfase em Administração da Informação, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: sistemas de informação empresarial, transformação digital, CRM (Customer Relationship Management), gestão do conhecimento e social media. Coordena projetos de pesquisa financiados pelo CNPq, pelo qual também é Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa (PQ2/CNPq). Mãe de dois filhos, esteve de licença maternidade em 2010 e 2016.

Marcírio Silveira Chaves, Escola de Negócios, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul

Marcirio Silveira Chaves é doutor em Informática pela Universidade de Lisboa, mestre em Ciência da Computação pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) e graduado em Informática - Análise de Sistemas pela Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS). Durante o mestrado passou dois meses trabalhando no Laboratorio de Bases de Datos da Universidade da Coruña na Galícia. Realizou seu doutorado na Linguateca e na unidade de pesquisa LaSIGE, equipe XLDB. Em 2012, foi Professor Visitante na Universidade de Barcelona, onde ministrou um workshop intitulado "A Fine-Grained Analysis of User-Generated Content to Support Decision Making" no âmbito do Programa Erasmus de mobilidade de docentes para missões de ensino. Foi coordenador do curso de Sistemas e Tecnologias da Informação, pesquisador no Instituto de Investigação Científica e Tecnológica da Universidade Atlântica e Professor Auxiliar na mesma universidade até janeiro de 2013. Foi docente nos cursos de Mestrado em Gestão, e em Gestão de Tecnologias e Sistemas de Informação. Em 2013, participou do programa intensivo de verão intitulado "Advanced Topics of Managing Technology-Driven Projects" na Bentley University, em Massachusetts, nos Estados Unidos. Em 2014 realizou um curso de curta duração intitulado "Doing (and Succeeding with) Grounded Theory in Information" na Tel Aviv University, em Israel. Entre 2017 e 2019 foi coordenador na PUCRS do projeto INCOBRA - Increasing International Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation Between Brazil and the European Union, financiado pelo programa Horizon 2020. Atualmente é Professor Adjunto do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Administração - PPGAd na Escola de Negócios da PUCRS, onde atua na linha de Estratégia, Organizaçõe e Sociedade. É líder do grupo de pesquisa Managing Projects and Information Technology - MProTech - http://mprotech.wikidot.com. Também tem publicado artigos nas áreas de Sistemas de Informação e Gestão da Informação e do Conhecimento. É membro da Association for Information Systems (AIS). É membro do conselho editorial do Iberoamerican Journal of Project Management e revisor de artigos para revistas e eventos científicos, incluindo: Academy of Management Meeting - AMM, European Conference on Information Systems - ECIS, Americas Conference on Information Systems - AMCIS e International Research Workshop on Information Technology Project Management - IRWITPM.
